Perceiving Object Shape from Specular Highlight Deformation, Boundary Contour Deformation, and Active Haptic Manipulation
It is well known that motion facilitates the visual perception of solid object shape, particularly when surface texture or other identifiable features (e.g., corners) are present. Conventional models of structure-from-motion require the presence of texture or identifiable object features in order to recover 3-D structure. Is the facilitation in 3-D shape perception similar in magnitude when sur...
متن کاملDeformation-Driven Shape Correspondence
Non-rigid 3D shape correspondence is a fundamental and difficult problem. Most applications which require a correspondence rely on manually selected markers. Without user assistance, the performances of existing automatic correspondence methods depend strongly on a good initial shape alignment or shape prior, and they generally do not tolerate large shape variations. We present an automatic fea...
متن کاملEfficient Muscle Shape Deformation
In this paper we extend previous work [Aubel00] and propose a muscle model suitable for computer graphics based on physiological and anatomical considerations. Muscle motion and deformation is automatically derived from an action line that is deformed using a 1D mass-spring system. The resulting model is fast and can accommodate most superficial human muscles.
متن کاملLp shape deformation
Shape deformation is a fundamental tool in geometric modeling. Existing methods consider preserving local details by minimizing some energy functional measuring local distortions in the L 2 norm. This strategy distributes distortions quite uniformly to all the vertices and penalizes outliers. However, there is no unique answer for a natural deformation as it depends on the nature of the objects...
متن کاملShape Space from Deformation
The construction of shape spaces is studied from a mathematical and a computational viewpoint. A program is outlined reducing the problem to four tasks: the representation of geometry, the canonical deformation of geometry, the measuring of distance in shape space, and the selection of base shapes. The technical part of this paper focuses on the second task: the specification of a deformation m...
